Trend Alert: Velvet.

Obsessed. Ob. Sessed. I got a pair of velvet leggings for Christmas from Topshop 4 years ago, and I still wear them – they’re black, theyre crushed velvet, and they’re perfect. They’re warm and cosy, and can be dressed up or down more easily than pretty much anything in my wardobe. They’re also a tighter squeeze now though, shh.

These leggings started my love affair with velvet, and now I just want it all. It’s like faux fur but more wearable and more versatile, and there’s not a single thing not to love about that. It’s perfect for Christmas parties, and also for staying warm during the day – functional and fashionable, see?

Luckily for me, it seems to be around quite a lot this year. New Look in particular are good for it (New Look are excellent this winter, why oh why do I not get staff discount any more?), and Topshop has a few gems too. My absolute favourite of the above is the simple New Look dress – I can picture it in so many ways. With a cosy Christmas jumper over the top; with a leather jacket and biker boots; with a statement choker and barely there heels – the list goes on! Close second is the Topshop pencil skirt – perfect party skirt, with an easy black cami and court shoes. The Zara messenger bag is pretty perfect, I love the volume in the skater skirt, the Mango slippers are classic failsafes with a twist, the boxy tee would look fab with a slinky leather (faux leather, who am I kidding, I know my budget) pencil skirt, and do I really need to mention the ear muffs? How. Cute. I threw the nail polishes in there as an added bonus – don’t worry, they’re nothing like the hideous nail art kits which come with a pot of fibres – these are sophicticated, matte, glittery polishes, and 3 of them for £12 is a bargain. And I need them. Check out Brit Nails for swatches!
