Does anyone else agree that Winter beauty is infinitely better than Summer beauty? When it’s hot I frankly cannot be bothered. It all just melts off anyway, and don’t even get me started on a smokey eye or a bold lip. Far too high maintenance, and not to mention you end up looking overdone half the time.
Once the cold hits, you can have much more fun with it. Suddenly deep purple lips become acceptable to wear during the day time, and your foundation actually stays put. You can go as fresh and pretty as you like, or you can go dark and smokey – and in the Winter, it’s all totally fine.
I like to try new things every so often, but some are definitely failsafe favourites – here are my top 5 make up looks for Winter:
1. Berry lips
Any berry is totally fine by me – raspberry, strawberry, blackberry, blueberry if it floats your boat. If it’s deep and some variation of red/purple, it’s going on my lips come Winter time. If you’re too scared, now’s the time to start – try a lip stain initially, it’s how I built up my courage. Best worn with pale skin and long eyelashes.
2. Bold eyebrows
Nobody does it like Cara really, do they? This is a winner all year round really, but in the Winter you can get away with going even thicker and darker. Go subtle on the inner corners, and get stronger on the arch and the ends for the most effective, non-TOWIE-esqe look. For the day, team statement brows with simple make up, or you’ll end up looking a bit like a drag queen, and nobody wants that.
3. Taupe smokey eyes
I’m a little bit late jumping onto the taupe bandwagon here, I know, but now I’m finally there I’m making the most of it. I’ve always, always avoided browns because they were too warm for my exceptionally cool colouring and made me look like I had spent the last day sobbing. Enter these perfect cool, grey toned browns. Subtle enough for a smokey eye, even on a Sunday.
4. Pink flushed cheeks
Picture yourself when you’ve been out for a play in the snow, all bundled up warm but with a freezing cold, happy face. What colour are your cheeks? Right, now apply a blusher in that colour, and fake it. Flushed cheeks, pink lips and fluttery eyelashes, you can’t go wrong really.
5. Gold glitter eyes
I couldn’t forget one for the Christmas parties – there’s really nothing better than glitter for situations like that. If you dare emulate the picture below, send me your address because I want to come and shake your hand. If you want to go for something a little more subtle, get a gorgeous gold sparkly eyeshadow, apply it all over the lid and on the lower lid/inner corner, then apply something a bit darker and a bit more matte in the crease, and add lashings of black eyeliner and mascara. Bam, perfect party look.
